Oenothera elata subsp. hirsutissima, or Hooker’s Evening Primrose, forms a basal rosette from which a tall flower stalks emerge with yellow blossoms that open in the early morning and in the evening just before sunset. This plant reaches 3-4 ft in height and blooms between June-October. It is found in moist places between 2000-9000 ft. Plant partial to full shade in wet conditions. Transplants well. Plant in clay or silty soils, palletable to wildlife. Prolific re-seeder in good conditions.
