Berlandiera lyrata, or Chocolate Flower, is a 1-2 foot tall perennial with velvet leaves and a yellow flower with a maroon center. Chocolate flower gets its name from the chocolate aroma that comes from the flower, which attract numerous insects both diurnal and nocturnal. The seedheads left on the plant after flowering are great for dried bouquets. It grows between 1500-7000 ft in elevation. Enjoys sandy, rocky, and disturbed soils. Low water needs and reseeds readily. Plant in full sun.
