Dichelostemma capitatum, or Blue Dicks or Desert Hyacinth, is a precious perennial wildflower that blooms after the winter rains, February-May. It arises from a small underground bulb and returns year after year. This spring ephemeral wildflower is low-growing and is found on dry ridges and on grassy plains below 5000 ft. Sow in the fall for a spring bloom, expect full results after 2-3 years, as these plants are slow to grow!
