Yucca baccata, or Banana Yucca, is a drought tolerant, native succulent found in a variety of soil types in grassland habitats from 3000-8000 ft. The basal rosette of hairy, sharp, lanceolate leaves grows up to 3 ft tall and wide, and the flowering stalk can be up to 10 ft tall. Once the plant reaches maturity, the large pinkish white flowers bloom between April-July and are pollinated by moths and native bees. The plant gets its name from the fleshy, banana-shaped fruits! Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-draining soils.
