Kallstroemia grandiflora, or Arizona Poppy, is an annual wildflower that grows to be 3 ft tall and 3 ft wide and is found in dry, rocky, and sandy soils on slopes and mesas in desert and grassland habitats below 5,000 ft. It has opposite pinnate leaves and showy flowers with 5 petals that are dark orange to red in the center and bright orange on the outer edges. This spring and summer bloomer can flower February-September, but usually puts on its biggest show of blooms in the heat of the summer with the monsoon rains. Reseeds readily.
