Digitaria californica, or Arizona cottontop, is an iconic native grass with a showy shiny apprearance when it flowers. This hardy native grows from 2-3 ft tall and is found in full sun on rocky and steep slopes at 1,000-6,000 ft. Arizona cottontop grows throughout much of North America from California east to Oklahoma and Texas and throughout Mexico and Central America. Found abundantly in the Sky Islands and, flowers between August and October.
